Samuel Smithers FITT was baptised at Selborne on the 11th August 1836. His father, Frederick Warne FITT, was a miller at the water mill off the main street in Selborne.
On 7th October 1858 Samuel marrried Ann WELLS at Selborne and in 1861 was a miller at Selborne living at 124 Gracious street.
By 1867 Samuel was a victualler and butcher at the 'Bugle Inn' West street, Fareham.

Samuel and Ann had the following children,

  • Alice Nancy baptised 29th January 1860, Selborne

  • William Dancaster baptised 29th December 1861 at Selborne marrying Laura Ann DAVIS in 1881 at South Stoneham.
    He was variously a butcher, horse dealer, furniture remover - all in Fareham

  • Clara Maud baptised 1st November 1863, Selborne

  • Kate baptised 1st October 1865, Selborne

  • Francis Annie baptised 27th October 1867, Fareham

  • Rosa baptised 25th April 1869, Fareham and married George Albert SYMES in 1894

  • Lilian Ada baptised 28th May 1871, Fareham

  • Ethel May born about 1869, Fareham

Samuel died on the 21st May 1885 and was buried in Fareham on the 4th June.
